Synopsis
Max, a young man in his late twenties, prepares for an important date with the help of his loyal barber. But when Monday arrives, the evening unravels once more this time in front of his coworkers. As he revisits every moment, the film explores the comedy and quiet tragedy of modern expectations: how far we go to be seen, and how hard it is to feel good enough.
How I funded this movie
This film is 100% self-financed. Not because it was the easiest option - but because it was the only one that felt honest. I’ve always believed that if you’re not willing to bet on yourself, you can’t expect others to invest in your dreams later on. So instead of waiting for permission, funding rounds, or the “right moment,” I chose to act. The film came together through every possible means: savings, freelance work, long nights, uncomfortable choices, and a few lucky breaks along the way. It required persistence, sacrifice, and belief - especially when the risk felt real. This approach gave me complete creative freedom and full responsibility. The film isn’t just the result of ideas and ambition, but of commitment. First and foremost, to myself.
Money set aside and saved over more than a year to fund the film.
First I slept at my office for a month, then upgraded to my mom’s couch.
Put 100 DKK on a live bet for fun. Walked away with 14.000.
Side jobs. Client work. Reinvested into the film.
It draws inspiration from the filmmakers and dreamers who shaped real movie magic: from Gene Kelly, Billy Wilder and Blake Edwards, to Spielberg, Chazelle, Nolan and Ruben Östlund. Their films made us sit in the dark, look up at the screen, and - for a moment - float. That spark, that heartbeat-pause of pure wonder, is what guided this project from day one. We poured everything into this film. No limits, no rules - just curiosity, playfulness and the joy of telling a story. Because at its core, filmmaking is a beautiful game of imagination, and this project allowed that imagination to run free. The Final Cut is written, produced and directed by Aleksander Emé - completely self-financed and built on passion, sacrifice and the stubborn belief that some stories deserve to be told, even when the budget is small and the days are long.
But this film also carries a personal mission: to grow as a filmmaker and take one step closer to the dream I’ve been chasing for years. The Final Cut is more than a short film. It’s a statement. A showcase. A step forward. Most of all, it is a love letter - to cinema, and to everyone who still believes in its magic. Thank you for watching. I hope the film earns your time, your attention, and maybe even opens the door to something we can create together in the future.
